Uranus in Taurus 2018-2026
How have you been? Have you noticed the sensation of change in the air? A major cycle coming to an end, and a new one is beginning. Everything is going to change.
Uranus is a planet that can be hard to understand, and it almost seems like it’s like that on purpose. The 7th planet from the Sun, it spins waaaayyy far out past Saturn. Saturn is our ringed and bound planet that represents limitations, boundaries, structure, and reality. It’s the farthest planet humans can see in the sky with the naked eye. Once we discovered there are gas giants past Saturn, we entered a mysterious realm of the solar system, and as a collective, became ready to experience completely new, mystical, out-of-this-world energies. Uranus is a weird ass planet, and it rules all that is weird, strange, otherworldly, alien-like, eccentric, queer, different from the status quo. Uranus spins on its goddamn side y’all. Like, all the other planets spin on a Y axis and Uranus spins on the X axis. No other planet has nearly as close of a tilt as Uranus, which is 98 degrees off! The Earth’s is 23 degrees by comparison. Not only does Uranus represent the weird and abnormal, but it brought the element of extreme change, revolution, and innovation into our collective consciousness.
As an archetype, it can be adequately related to that of Prometheus, the rebel who stole fire (magic, spirit, creation energy) from the heavens to bring it to Earth to give to humanity. Like Prometheus, Uranus breaks established norms, abolishes existing structures, rebels against the system, all in service to the collective and the greater good. The archetype is focused on the future of humanity as a whole, the issues we face collectively, and brings the energy of total and complete change in order to liberate, revolutionize, and move us forward. Uranus rules the invisible web of information that connects us on a global level. The internet is a perfect manifestation of this, and is also ruled by Uranus. This web also holds the collective traumas, memories, and experiences of groups. The energy is electric, explosive, unexpected, destructive, genius, innovative, futuristic, next-level, earth-quakey, shocking, destabilizing, sudden, and brings complete and total change. It turns things on their side, changes direction, breaks boundaries, all in the name of awakening us to live more authentically.
So what happens when this weirdo, rebel, revolutionary planet enters fixed earth sign Taurus? To start, Uranus hasn’t been in this part of the zodiac for 84 years! Think of someone walking into an old, dusty mansion that’s been sitting untouched for over 80 years, and switching on circuit breakers! Time to wake up!
Taurus is the 2nd sign in the zodiac and it’s phrase is “I have”. The first sign, Aries, is “I am” and has to do with our identity, our body, and our autonomy. Taurus takes that a step further to extend into the physical world - I am me, and this is what I have. It rules our belongings, the physical objects that we place value onto - our homes, our clothing, our food, anything we claim ownership of. Taurus rules money and goods. It also rules our values and the value we place onto our things and ourselves. The quality and value of what we purchase and own have direct correlation to the value we place on ourselves. How much money are you bringing in vs putting out? What’s your relationship with money, and why? Do you hold onto your assets as if they can disappear at any moment or do you have trouble holding onto money? All of these questions have to do with our value systems, our self worth. How do we establish our values, and in turn how we value ourselves? Where does it all begin? The loving gaze from our parents. When you’re a baby, your mother (or father or primary nurturer) staring into your eyes with love and adoration is your first indicator of your value in this world. Your parents relationship to money and the conversations, or lack there of, around money in the household also go on to shape your view around these Taurus themes. Sit with this for a while. What is your money story? How did the values your parents instilled in you growing up effect the way you handle your money and value yourself now?
Ruled by Venus, Taurus has a lot to do with love and beauty. It’s an Earth sign, so we look to the beauties of Mama Gaia, nature, and sensuality. Taurus rules the five senses, so we’re talking about finding value and beauty in what we eat, listen to, look at, touch, and smell. Taurus is all about stopping to smell the roses, moving through life slowly enough to enjoy the natural beauty inherent in all things, recognizing and enjoying sensual pleasures. Rich, delicious food, soft fabrics, beautiful music, and money in the bank is what Taurus needs to feel good and start ble.
A note about the transition of 8 years of Uranus in Aries to 8 years of Uranus in Taurus. Do you wonder what the volcanoes erupting around the world may be attributed to? Uranus finishing up its 7 year run in fire sign Aries, moving into earth sign Taurus, is surely indicative of earth on fire. (As Anne Ortelee also mentioned, maybe the eruptions are happening on your face or in your body as well! I’ve definitely been breaking out more than usual). Uranus also influences us on a collective level in terms of trends and what we obsess over. Uranus entered Aries in 2011. Uranus, the change maker, innovator, planet of individuality and uniqueness, in the sign of the self. What did we get? The selfie. The social media boom. Front facing cameras on our phones. Social media influencers! People making a living off of marketing themselves. Individuality boom. Uranus innovated the idea of the “self” and blew it up, made it popular, marketable, and social. Again, Uranus rules the internet and the interconnectedness of all things in the mental & idea realms, so globally we became obsessed with the idea of connection & being seen as unique individuals. With Uranus coming to the physical earth sign of Taurus, we shift our obsessions toward money, values and goods - what you have. Think cryptocurrency! The digitalization and innovation of money and banking is soooo Uranus in Taurus. So yes, crypto is here to stay. Uranus comes into Taurus to destabilize the existing structures we have around money & income, to revolutionize and innovate. Are we nearing the end of physical money? Are we entering a revolution in banking? We can also look forward to advancements in green energy and infrastructure over the next 8 years. In addition to to innovations around green tech, farming, food production, clothes and textiles, luxury goods, and money itself, we can expect the very real effects of climate change to continue to surface, with more earthquakes, eruptions, mud slides, and the like. Taurus is fixed Earth, meaning very stable and unmovable earth and land, however adding Uranus the change maker into this sign and all of a sudden that Earth is shocked into movement and change.
